🍀What's your lucky number?

ree

🏆 Nicola won $500 in a writing contest. She wanted to use it towards a small print run for the second book in her scifi-fantasy series: Leoshine, Princess Quarry.

"No," I said. "Not yet."

Why? Why would I hold her back?

I felt that Nicola should flex her marketing muscles first and get some wins, so I challenged her, "See how many copies you can pre-sell. Aim for 25 to start." Then I taught her the bullseye principle of marketing:

🎯 Centre: start with people who bought the first book and tell them the second one is ready.
🎯 First ring: reach out to people who expressed interest but haven't purchased the first book.

There's more, but that was enough.

That was Thursday.

Nicola is also editing an audiobook for my company.

On Saturday, she sent this message:

🏆 "I finished chapter 13 today and have presold 13 [copies of] Princess Quarry. It's my lucky number!"

7️⃣ Seven more books and she'll match the prize money.

5️⃣ Five more and she'll hit her first goal ... and we'll order those books!

Did I sell something? Not exactly.

🚰 I did turn on her marketing tap in a whole new way.

I could have made a bit of money quickly if I let her cash in her prize money to buy books, but this is not just about money, it's about Nicola's success. And, this approach will make even more money for BOTH of us in the long run with book sales and royalties and publishing even more books!

BTW: Nicola hates social media, and this required no socials, just relationships.

🍀 What's your lucky number?

I'm borrowing Nicola's number for July and opening 13 spots for private coaching.

📯I'm calling this a Clarion Call — a call to action.

If you're like me, you need help with taking action, and that's what I want to do:

call you to action.

🍀 Want to find your lucky number?
