Illustrating with Kyla (1 of 3): Picturing Merrigold

Finding Kyla was an answer to prayer for Marica Lee Laycock. She had this charming story about a prodigal child who went in search of her own home, only to realize that she'd rather sleep in her own bed. But we didn't know who might illustrate it. Then one day someone from Marcia's church recommended Kyla Wiebe and that was that.

Kyla says it takes 4-6 months to illustrate a children's book. Meanwhile, like Merrigold, the illustrator needs somewhere to sleep and something to eat. Unlike Merrigold, she needs money to do that. So Marcia and I ran a crowdfunding campaign to raise the money for Kyla's work: Picturing Merrigold | Indiegogo.
We loved working with Kyla, and we also appreciated how much she shared about Merrigold on social media. (More about that in the next post.)

p.s. Merrigold's Very Best Home was shortlisted in two categories for The Word Awards 2023:
Books -- Christian Fiction -- Children
